The carmaker says that the concepts highlight its “readiness” for China’s new energy vehicle (NEV) market and that future Ioniq models will be named after planets for the Chinese market. Concept exterior features a transparent spoiler, and a ‘Radiant Gold’ finish.Its wraparound cabin gets a large infotainment screen and suede seat upholstery.Production versions will be powered by range-extender hybrid vehiclesHyundai Venus concept exterior and interior details Sedan is inspired by the planet Venus and gets sharp exterior designHyundai says that the Venus sedan concept takes inspiration from the planet Venus. This is done by giving it a ‘Radiant Gold’ paint job, and visually, its design takes a departure from the retro, pixel motifs seen on the current Ioniq models. Moreover, it looks sharper than the similarly sized and positioned Ioniq 6, whose design is more on the curvier side. The front-end features slim LED DRLs that represent two halves of the letter ‘H’ along with an illuminated Hyundai badge. The bumper gets a sharp design with a wide air vent and a black finish for the splitter. Its “frame-structured” roof is lightweight and is characterised by a single curve. The alloy wheels get a dual-tone finish, and the rear-end gets a transparent spoiler.On the inside, the wraparound cabin adopts a grey colour scheme along with gold accents and stitching. There’s a squared-off three-spoke steering gets a column-mounted gear lever, and the dashboard is dominated by a large infotainment screen that also doubles up as a passenger display. The seats feature suede upholstery with chrome gold highlights, and the high-set centre console features two wireless phone charging pads and storage spaces.Hyundai Venus concept: Additional detailsHyundai has not revealed whether the concepts will sit on the current Ioniq models’ E-GMP architecture, production-readiness of the concepts, or a launch timeline. However, it did confirm that the cars would come with locally developed ADAS tech, and “market-specific” solutions like range-extender hybrid vehicles. Additional details on the concepts would be revealed when they make their public debut at the Beijing Auto Show. The carmaker has said the Ioniq brand will be “tailored to local customers” with the concepts being distinct from the current Ioniq lineup sold globally. This is being done by a new naming strategy for the upcoming Ioniq models, wherein models sold in China will be named after a planet instead of numerical designations like its current Ioniq portfolio. Hyundai says this “symbolises how each vehicle orbits around the customer — the central focus of this new IONIQ universe.”

<amp-img width="150" height="150" src="https://asset.autocarindia.com/static/features/images/20260410_084933_673673e8.jpg">
Volkswagen Taigun facelift vs Skoda Kushaq: Claimed mileage compared
by Autocar India on April 10, 2026 at 9:31 am
After being on sale since 2021, both the Volkswagen Taigun and the Skoda Kushaq have received their mid-cycle updates in 2026. Both SUVs continue with the same 115 hp 1.0-litre and 150 hp 1.5-litre turbo-petrol engines, but the 1.0-litre now also gets a new 8-speed automatic alongside the 6-speed manual, while the 1.5-litre retains the 7-speed DCT. Claimed fuel efficiency figures have also been revised with the updates.Let us compare the claimed mileage of the Volkswagen Taigun facelift with the pre-facelift model and the Skoda Kushaq facelift to see how they stack up.Volkswagen Taigun new vs old: Claimed mileage comparison1.0-litre TSI’s claimed mileage has improved, while the 1.5-litre TSI’s has droppedVolkswagen Taigun facelift vs old Taigun: Claimed fuel efficiency (in kpl)Powertrain optionNew TaigunOld TaigunDifference1.0-litre TSI MT19.9819.87+0.111.0-litre TSI AT*19.5418.15+1.391.5-litre TSI DCT18.8519.01-0.16*The facelifted Taigun gets a new 8-speed AT, while the older model came with a 6-speed AT.As the table suggests, the claimed fuel efficiency of the Taigun’s 1.0-litre turbo-petrol engine has increased with both manual and automatic transmissions. The larger jump in claimed mileage for the 8-speed AT over the older 6-speed unit is due to closer gear ratios that help keep the engine in a more efficient RPM range even at higher speeds, improving both mileage and smoothness of shifts.However, the claimed mileage of the larger 1.5-litre turbo-petrol engine has slightly dropped. This could be linked to a small increase in kerb weight to 1,320 kg, up by 6 kg. The increased weight is likely due to additions like the panoramic sunroof and rear disc brakes.Taigun facelift vs Kushaq facelift: Claimed mileage comparisonThe Taigun facelift is more fuel-efficient than the Kushaq with all powertrain optionsVolkswagen Taigun facelift vs Skoda Kushaq facelift: Claimed fuel efficiency (in kpl)Powertrain optionVolkswagen TaigunSkoda KushaqDifference1.0-litre TSI MT19.9819.66+0.321.0-litre TSI AT19.5419.09+0.451.5-litre TSI DCT18.8518.72+0.13The Volkswagen Taigun facelift is more fuel-efficient than the Skoda Kushaq across all powertrain options. The biggest gap is seen in the new 8-speed AT versions, followed by the 6-speed manual variant of the 1.0-litre turbo-petrol engine.Volkswagen is yet to reveal the prices of the Taigun facelift, but they are expected to be slightly higher than the outgoing model’s Rs 10.58 lakh to Rs 19.19 lakh range. In comparison, the Skoda Kushaq facelift is priced between Rs 10.69 lakh and Rs 18.99 lakh. In fact, this EV will even undercut the Model 3 sedan, Tesla’s current most accessible offering, it added. The Model 3 starts at USD 37,000 (approximately Rs 34.31 lakh) in the US. The carmaker has reportedly reached out to suppliers in recent weeks to discuss details regarding its plans for the SUV, which won’t be another variant of the Model Y but an all-new model.At about 4.3 metres long, it’ll slot in the midsize SUV spaceSmaller battery than Model Y and single-motor setup to keep costs lowerDriving range will be lower than the Model YDebut timeline is unclear right nowNew Tesla EV detailsUS-spec Tesla Model Y (image used for representation).The SUV would measure around 4.3 metres in length, making it a midsize SUV. For reference, the Model Y’s length ranges from 4,790mm to 4,976mm, depending on the wheelbase version. The upcoming model will be produced at Tesla’s Shanghai factory in China, with production later expanding to the US and Europe, the report added. The people cited earlier also said the EV manufacturer plans to rein in costs in part by using a smaller battery, which could mean a shorter driving range than the Model Y. One of the people told Reuters that the automaker would offer a single electric motor instead of two. Tesla also wants to make the car much lighter, at about 1.5 tonnes or 1,500kg. The global debut timeline is unclear, and the car’s production is unlikely to begin this year.Model S and Model X discontinuedTesla Model S sedan (top) and Model X SUV (bottom).Interestingly, this report comes shortly after Tesla pulled the plug on the Model S sedan and Model X SUV, two of its longest-running models, as it shifts focus towards large-scale production of humanoid robots. Tesla is currently preparing to begin production of its two-door Cybercab robotaxi, first shown in 2024, which has no steering wheel or pedals. However, a debut timeline remains unclear.Low-cost Model 2 scrapped earlierTesla teased the Model 2 at its 2023 annual shareholder meeting.The report highlighted that Tesla’s track record with low-cost vehicles has been inconsistent. After launching as a luxury automaker in 2008, Tesla made it clear that its long-term goal was to build affordable electric cars for the mass market. Beginning in 2020, CEO Elon Musk even spoke of selling 20 million vehicles annually by the end of the decade, and a USD 25,000 Model 2 was expected to contribute significantly to that growth. But in 2024, Musk scrapped it to focus on robotaxis, later even calling a USD 25,000 human-driven EV “pointless” and “silly”. A former Tesla manager noted that until recently, the company had moved away from developing an all-new traditional EV and was instead focusing on robotaxis as a way to reduce costs.Strategy shiftAs of now, it’s unclear whether this signals a return to human-driven EVs or if the new model will align with the brand’s push towards autonomy. According to sources familiar with the project, Tesla is now looking to develop vehicles that can operate autonomously but still offer the option of human driving. While Tesla continues to aim for fully driverless cars, many global markets have not seen widespread adoption of such technology. Offering both options could enable more sales and keep production volumes high. When Tesla eventually introduced more affordable models, they turned out to be pared-down versions of the Model 3 and Model Y rather than entirely new cars. Priced at USD 37,000 (Model 3 Standard) and USD 40,000 (Model Y Standard) in the US, they were still seen as too expensive to bring in a new set of buyers and haven’t significantly boosted overall sales.Tesla scaling up Supercharger network in IndiaIn India, the Model Y remains Tesla’s only offering, priced at Rs 58.89 lakh for the rear-wheel-drive version and Rs 67.89 lakh for the long-range variant (both ex-showroom). The groundwork is already being laid on the infrastructure front, with the company steadily building its Supercharger network. Its fifth station recently came up in Navi Mumbai, taking the total to 20 Superchargers across the country. More installations are expected, especially along busy routes connecting major cities such as Bengaluru, Chennai and Chandigarh.

<amp-img width="150" height="150" src="https://asset.autocarindia.com/static/features/images/20260409_123734_80f41992.jpg">
Which Volkswagen Taigun facelift variant should you consider?
by Autocar India on April 10, 2026 at 7:49 am
The recently unveiled Taigun facelift continues with the 1.0-litre and 1.5-litre turbo-petrol engine options but brings revised styling, added features and a new automatic gearbox for the 1.0-litre TSI.
